Home > Powderham Castle
A visit to Powderham Castle is an enchanting day out for all its visitors. Fascinating guided tours of this magnificent 600 year old Castle – one of the oldest family houses in England and home to the 18th Earl of Devon - reveals secret doors, stunning castle rooms, amazing architecture and intriguing stories that really bring the history to life. Not forgetting the recently restored Victorian Kitchen where you can visualise what life would have been like in domestic service.
Outside visitors are welcome to explore extensive grounds full of natural rugged beauty and relax in the peaceful surroundings. The Castle is set in a fabulous Deer Park, on the edge of the Exe estuary, only a stone’s throw from Exeter. Some visitors take the beautiful walk up to the Belvedere tower where they are justly rewarded with amazing far-reaching views and others may choose a closer look at the wonderful wildlife on the estate on a deer park safari. (small extra charge).
2009 is a special anniversary year at Powderham Castle as we celebrate 50 years of welcoming visitors through the doors. There will be special themed events planned throughout the season including a Knights & Princesses week, Pirate weeks and Wizard weeks during the school holidays. There will also be a number of 50th anniversary events including the 50th Anniversary Picnic celebration in the beauty of the Woodland Garden on Sunday 17 May and the 50s/60s Party on Sunday 2nd August.
