By leaving your car behind and travelling by public transport, you can sit back and enjoy the wonderful scenery of Exeter & Essential Devon. The area has excellent transport links, with most towns and villages accessible by bus or train. Some public transport operators offer 'explorer' tickets, where you buy a day ticket and can hop on or off at your leisure.
The Tarka Line train runs from Exeter to Barnstaple, and is one of the country's most scenic rural branch lines. Passing through the towns of Crediton and Eggesford, as well as smaller villages along the route, it is also known as the Rail Ale Trail, with charming pubs serving real ales at many of the stops.
The Jurassic Coast is easily explored by public transport, with a dedicated bus travelling between Exeter and Poole, stopping at each of the Jurassic Coast gateway towns. Most of the buses used on this route are double decker, giving you spectacular views of the coastline. One of the best ways to explore this fascinating coast is by boat, and trips operate from most of the Jurassic Coast towns.
If you prefer to get away from the roads and explore the coast and countryside on foot, there are excellent walking and cycling trails in Exeter & Essential Devon. The South West Coast Path National Trail runs along the entire coast of the south west, and there are a great variety of guided walks to join - details usually available from the local Tourist Information Centres.
